Guardian and Skills

The Templar Guardian class is the "tank" of the game, capable of using skills and equipment to withstand tremendous damage. You'll want one of these in your party. Guardians aren't just meat shields, though. They have plenty of useful skills and can kill effectively as well, whether with swords or pistols. Contents
Guardian Description
There are many differences between the two Templar classes, but both will work largely as melee fighters. Guardians are best at taking on big packs of monsters at once, while Blademasters kill very quickly, but can not take the damage from a mob. Guardians actually prefer mobs, with skills and auras that increase their healing rate, or damage, or other properties when there are more enemies nearby. Guardians can have a harder time with a single monster than with a pack, oddly enough.

Guardians can use pistols, and it's nice to have those handy for dealing with various running or flying monsters, but the class is best with a sword and shield.

There was early worries that the Guardian was too defensive a character and that Guardians would not be able to kill as quickly as other characters. They can't, if you measure only the actual damage output, but Guardians have such strong defensive skills that they seldom need to retreat or reposition, standing them in stark contrast to the various higher damage "glass cannon" characters. Blademasters might do more damage, but they spend a great deal of time running around to reposition and string out monster mobs, while the Guardian can just wade in and tank the lot, doing damage the whole time. Its more a difference in play style than doing "less damage".
Guardian Skills
hellgate
The Guardian has 27 skills, mostly involving surviving in the midst of battle, without resorting to "tactical retreats" like Marksmen and Evokers particularly have to do. Skills are focused on healing, defence and keeping the foes to attack the Guardian, and not some fragile party member. The skills are roughly divided into four Skill Groups: Swordsmanship, Auras, Prayers, and Taunts. Skills in related groups are sometimes, but not necessarily, connected by dependency lines and have each other as prerequisites. Guardians have a lot of auras with all sorts of effects, including healing, damaging, and otherwise inconveniencing monsters. In addition to all the various auras, Guardians have a variety of shield skills, defence-boosting skills, and a few combat skills as well.

Flagship Responds to Subscription Issues and Other Concerns

The big issue on billing problems that we reported on yesterday is now dealt with according to Flagship Studios. Kaiser Hwang, Senior Community Manager of Flagship Studios says: "After burning several drums of midnight oil, we have resolved all current billing issues with our payment processing partners. We’ve completed our payment reconciliation process and players that were incorrectly billed will see paybacks credited to their credit card accounts in the next few days".

The statement goes on to say: "We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, although it impacted just 3% of people that requested to become subscribing members. There is also approximately an equal amount of players whose subscription status has been approved, but their cards were uncharged as we did not process their payment until the issues were resolved".

"Again, we’re sorry to those of you who were affected by this," signed The Hellgate: London team.

ShackNews has also gotten an answer from Ivan Sulic: "We've contacted every single one of [the affected users] to work out the problem. We should be sailing a lot smoother from here on out".

While the problem never was a big thing on the Unofficial Site forums, the whole problem seems to have been subjected to a very small, unfortunate, and (understandably) vocal, minority of the Hellgate: London subscribers. Ten minutes later, Kaiser also gave all Hellgate: London players a second statement on what Flagship and Ping0 are working on right now:
Dear Customers,

We realize many of you are experiencing a variety of problems. We at Flagship and Ping0 are working hard to address these issues.

Our current top priorities are:

* Resolving any remaining problems related to billing and subscriptions.
* Fixing two known bugs which cause players to sometimes lose items (one related to dual focus/dual melee, and one related to loading issues).
* Making improvements to memory usage in order to reduce "Memory Exhausted" crashes.
* Fixing a known issue with the user interface which causes the application to lock up intermittently.* An issue which occasionally prevents characters from being able to load or switch instances.
* General chat interface improvements. (Many improvements are in the works).
* Random disconnects and lag.
* Allowing higher resolution textures and models for other players.
* Various known problems with being able to continue interrupted side quests.
* Remnant quest items not getting destroyed and "clogging" up inventory.
* Continued problems with saving / loading Engineer Drone items.
* Invisible party members.
* The nanoforge not correctly improving rare and better armors.
* Getting stuck on collision.

Some of these are issues which will be fixed as soon as possible and go live in upcoming patches, some will be in our upcoming content patch, and others are issues on which we will make gradual improvements to on a continuous basis.

Of course we also have a more extensive bug list as well as lot of general improvements and new content in the works. Everyone here is
working full-time to support Hellgate. We appreciate your patience.

How To Get On The Forums

So you live in the EU, have created an EU account, and are now wondering, "How do I get on the forums?"
First thing: Currently, all forums are located on the US version of the site (
http://www.hellgatelondon.com/). Eventually there will be some sort of forum locally on the EU site, but this date is still TBA.
Second thing: To access the US forums, you'll need to create a game account on the US site as well. This is because we have separate account databases for US and EU players. It's free to create, doesn't take long, and you can use the same account name as your EU one if you wish (assuming it's available).
Sorry if there's been any confusion on this, and thanks!

New SP Update Coming

On November 8 at approximately 8:00am PST, we'll be releasing a new single player update for Hellgate: London. This update will not impact our online game servers. There is, however, a chance you will not immediately see the update tomorrow morning as we'll be throttling delivery to ensure a smooth release.
Fixed: Multiplayer starting on a black screen for a very small percentage of users that applied the 1.40 single player patch.
Fixed: Incomplete downloads for the single player and launcher patches. Please Note: This update is not a single player version of the Guy Fawkes patch, what we typically refer to as Patch 0.1.
Thanks again for playing!

Completion of Server Maintenance

Dear gamers,

we have successfully completed our first maintenance for the Hellgate:London online servers.

Here're the server maintenance notes:

1. Patch-0(including the Level Cap removal) has not been implemented on the game service yet due to minor glitches encountered during the testing.

2. All servers have restarted to ensure proper efficiency. All networks have been checked and flushed accordingly.

We are currently testing the Patch-0 aggressively to ensure that the patch will not create any glitches during its implementation. Following the completion of the test (expected to take at least 24 hours), we will schedule an ad-hoc downtime to implement the patch on the game service.

Thank you for your patience and have a good day gaming!

Bill Roper responds to Hellgate: London criticisms

We speak with Flagship Studios CEO Bill Roper about the future of Hellgate: London, and give him a chance to answer some of the most vocal criticisms against the game.
GamePro Reviews Hellgate: London
Hellgate: Disappointing?

Hellgate: Disappointing?

Hellgate: London does offer some simple-minded entertainment, but it falls well short of its lofty goals

GP: Why don't you start by showing us what's in store for Hellgate: London players in the form of extra content and subscriber-only features?

Bill Roper: Sure. Subscribers get different gameplay modes, perks like extra character slots and a bigger item stash. But right around Halloween we wanted to have things that subscribers could get right away. There are three things. First, we wanted to have a repeatable quest -- trick or treating. There are different kinds of candy you can get, and some of them have gameplay effects. We also have a unique piece of armor called "All Hallow's Visage," a helm that looks like a flaming skull. It's a pretty rare drop. There's also a Halloween-themed pet -- the "Zombot." There's a recipe you can find, and you track down the components and build it.
Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios

Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios

Around the December timeframe, we'll be adding a new town to the game, with new surrounding adventure areas. It's all-new environment artwork. The new town will be set in Stonehenge - outside of London. [Stonehenge] is in this protected mystic bubble, so it still stands despite the demon invasion. The adventuring areas all around it will be outdoors, set in the wilderness. There will be new quests, new story points, and some other things that we'll share later.

GP: I've lurked on the Beta forums quite a few times, and I see you have quite a passionate community...

Bill Roper: [laughs] We definitely have a passionate community. That's a great way to describe it - the "passionate response" we get in our forums. If people didn't care about the game, they wouldn't say those things. But sometimes it's hard for us to read some of [those comments].

GP: I can imagine. I've seen some really withering criticisms in those forums...

Bill Roper: I think there was some confusion about what the game was going to be initially, [particularly] free play versus subscribing. I think there's still a lot of that. It's honestly confusing to me about the way people react to the subscription option in Hellgate. It's been more of a challenge to us than we anticipated. The whole idea was to give everybody what they wanted. Because we're doing this hybrid model, it's almost like people try to figure out how we're screwing them... but we're not! For subscribers, it's actually less than other MMOs like Tabula Rasa or World of Warcraft [$9.99 versus $14.99]. We're not trying to hose you, we're just trying to give people what they want.

But yeah, it can be tough to go on the forums. You try to explain things and interact with the community, but there's a small percentage of people that will never be happy no matter what. You could pay them $5 a month to play your game, and they'll complain that they want $10.

GP: It's pretty common in the games industry.

Bill Roper: And I wonder if it's unique to the games industry. I don't see people [complaining about and slamming] TVs and movies on message boards, but it's very much that way for games.

GP: One of the biggest complaints is about the variety of the levels: despite being in London, you fight in dungeons and basements and sewers an awful lot.

Bill Roper: We re-flowed the level layouts in the final version, with a focus on theming the Acts, so that should help. We probably have as many, if not more, level variations in Hellgate as we did in Diablo 2. The reason it feels different is because the game takes place in London or Hell. I think the Act changes in Diablo 2 were more striking - desert, forest, jungle - but if you look at the individual areas, it pretty much boiled down to forest, graveyard, underground caverns, and the Rogue's headquarters. That's pretty much Act 1 of Diablo 2.

But I don't wholly disagree [with the complaint about a lack of visual variety], and I think it came off that way because the levels weren't themed really well [in the earlier versions of Hellgate]. Theming Acts really helped things feel different. We didn't add any areas, but the game now feels far more thematic because we tweaked the layouts and graphic look for each Act. That's one of the big changes we made in the last month of development.

GP: Here's another popular complaint: In Hellgate, weapons are far more useful than skills -- my Marksman mostly used his gun, not his skills and abilities. Will you further tweak skills to make them more useful? Would you ever consider totally re-doing the current skills?

Bill Roper: We will never completely re-do skills, but we will always look at them. The final version has a seen many skill changes. What we wanted to do in Hellgate was to make the weapons into spell-delivery systems. Skills in Hellgate alter the way you use your primary weapon, such as the Marksman's grenades.

The other thing is, players have had a long time in Diablo 2 to figure out all the different character builds. Honestly, players haven't had much time to [experiment] in Hellgate with different skills and builds. In Diablo 2, a lot of the skills outright sucked. It's also very different in Hellgate, because skills grow with you as you level. In Hellgate, we didn't want people to regret putting points into early-level skills. Obviously we'll continue to tweak and balance the skills, but Hellgate uses a very different skill system from D2 and people will figure it out.

GP: You guys deleted some of the zanier humor from the characters for the final version. Was that in response to complaints from Beta players?

Bill RoperYes, that was definitely in response to people saying "this is too wacky and out of place" and "it doesn't feel as urgent, it feels too goofy." I've definitely pushed for the storyline to [go a certain way]. There's been Hell on Earth for 18 years...their perception is pretty twisted at this point. But there were some characters that were over-the-top. The way we handled it was to dial back the [crazier dialogue] from the NPCs so they are less likely to say them.

GP: Finally, what will Hellgate look like in six months or a year?

Bill RoperIt's going to continue to grow. For the first time, we have the opportunity to produce ongoing content and not say "let's wait a year for the expansion." It's been a lot of work...but in six months or a year, we'll have longer windows to produce [bigger] subscriber content. [For example], this December we'll be releasing a 300MB or so patch.

GP: Thanks, Bill.

Blademaster Skills

Keep in mind that many non-percentile values actually scale to the player's level. For example, at Clvl 1, the skill level one Surge of Restoration may give 19 hp/min, but when player is level ten, the same level one grenade may give a lot more HP instead. The same scaling effect goes for the rest of the nine skill levels. If level two gives 19 hp/min at Clvl 1, it will give even more when the player is clvl 10 etc.

IGN's Second Impessions 6.8/10

IGN has given Hellgate: London a second look over (after the first impressions), and has a quite harsh opinion on the game in the end. I hardly agree on many of these grades they have given it, but I do know that the game needed some more polish before release. Unfortunately, you don't get a "second release", the game probably won't have another shot at getting good reviews. Here is IGN's opinions:

Presentation 7.0
A credible attempt to recast Diablo for the next generation but some of the new ideas just don't work.

Graphics 7.5
Full of moody atmosphere and inventive monster designs. Animation leaves a bit to be desired.

Sound 7.0
Voice work and effects just do enough to get by. A few actors help to rescue the rest of the cast.

Gameplay 6.0
The drive to get new items is about the only reward worth pursuing here. Monsters are more exciting than the players.

Lasting Appeal 6.5
It's fun for a week or so, but the lack of variety in the combat and the haphazard level design starts to get old fast.

OVERALL 6.8 Passable

Hellgate: London Because of DRM?

The lot of us might love Hellgate: London, and many new games released rather recently. A lot of these games also has SecuROM DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) built in, to prevent you from using the product in any way you want. In some part, this is due to prevent piracy (not that it does prevent it more than one day (0day), just download a cracked version, and everything works fine), which could be an argument, but for the most part, the only thing you will notice, is when things go wrong.

Halloween Item Fix

Tomorrow, on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 we'll be taking down both the NA and EU servers at 6:00AM PST for a small patch update.
As you may already know, the Halloween-themed event was open to all players last week. When our new themed event went live today (Guy Fawkes Day), it may have caused some of your Halloween items to be disabled. This patch will resolve the issue, so you'll have access to all your Halloween items again. Thanks!

A Letter From Bill Roper

When we first started talking about Hellgate: London, there were a lot of interpretations about exactly what kind of game it was that we were making. Our online plans are as ambitious and exciting as the game itself, so I wanted to spend a few minutes talking directly to our fans about this very important topic.
Our intent from the beginning was to provide gamers an online experience not just comparable to, but even better than, what they got from Diablo II. It has always been Flagship’s goal to offer a robust multi-player experience that can satisfy players for months and even years, free from any subscription.
Hellgate: London is completely free to play online, out of the box. Anyone who buys the game can not only play through the fully randomized, storyline-driven gameplay offline, but they can also go online and share that experience with millions of players from around the world. We’re excited to be able to bring gamers an amazing, free online experience that is included with their single player game.
The Hellgate: London secure online experience is structured around shared, multi-player towns linking together randomly generated, “instanced” adventure areas, unique for a single-player or group of players. Both free players and subscribers will be playing together in groups and guilds on huge realms supporting tens of thousands of players simultaneously.
We want as many players as possible to find and group with their friends online, regardless of when or where their characters were created. Gone are the days of worrying about making sure your new character will be able to play with your old friends. Everyone gets access to our secure multi-player game servers. Players can party and trade with other players and play through the entire adventure to save London from the grip of the demons.
And all for free.
Gamers also want choices, and we have so many great ideas for Hellgate: London, and the concept is so extendable, that we know we can keep adding to this game for a long time. We want to continue moving Hellgate: London forward in some really exciting directions, and to support ongoing development we’ve created a subscription service to give players access to new content as we go along. This commitment to our gamers was also a part of our plans for Hellgate: London from the very beginning.
In short, what subscribers are getting is new content – not simply “better” things. Another way of thinking of this would be that we’re delivering smaller expansions over time rather than having players wait a year or more before they finally get something new.
We listen to our community and are making every effort to support players who want an excellent and complete experience for the price of the box alone, as well as those that want us to expand the game for years to come. Hellgate: London is a very special game to all of us at Flagship Studios. The crew at Ping0 has been working diligently on creating the best online experience possible. Together we envision launching a game that will appeal to both those who want to simply get online to play with their friends and those who want more and more from their gaming experience.Asia countries are choosing business models that will bereceived the most reasonably in each market. We are discussing the sales model of our game with HanbitSoft and other related partners to yield the best strategy for each market based on a careful study, and all of this will be announced soon.

Sell Hgl palladium and IGN's First Impressions

This came in on Friday, IGN's first impressions of Hellgate: London. I would suspect we will see a review coming up soon enough. Here is a snippet:

And the "some reason or other" really doesn't matter. One of the problems though is that the story isn't really told through the game as much as it is told around the game. While I certainly don't think that a more action-oriented game like this should have the same depth of storytelling as other RPGs, it's a shame that the story wasn't incorporated more into the events of the game. Sure, there are exceptions -- having to chase down the Tech or collecting various body parts actually helps the player feel like they're making a real contribution within the plot -- but most of the time you're just hacking away at the monsters with no context beyond the one-line description in your quest tracker.

For some players, this won't be a big deal. They love just jumping in and stabbing things and they don't need any further justification than that. Fortunately, Hellgate provides no shortage of ghoulies, ghosties and long-leggedy beasties for you to swat with your sword or sear with your spells. Every single game area is teeming with monsters so you won't have to waste any time hunting for them. The monsters are relatively inventive but still stick to some familiar stereotypes -- fat zombies, floating eyeballs, big brains, etc.

Server Coming Down, New Theme

Howdy!Just a heads-up, on November 5th between 6AM and 9AM PST, both the Shulgoth and Sydonai servers will be coming down for maintenance and patching. We're shooting for our total downtime to be no longer than those three hours, but please be patient. It's also possible that one server might be up before the other, so don't worry if you can logon to only one of them for a time – both will be up after we complete our scheduled downtime.
The reason for this? Well, during this downtime, we're deploying a new patch that, among other things, contains a new subscriber only themed event: Guy Fawkes Day.
That's right, Hellgate: London is celebrating Guy Fawkes Day. The holiday, still celebrated in England, is held in remembrance of Guy Fawkes' failure to assassinate King James I in what became known as the Gunpowder Plot. This story has been referenced numerous times in pop culture... Harry Potter, the film "V for Vendetta," and even the song "Remember" by John Lennon all have roots in the 5th of November. Time to add Hellgate: London to that list! Here are the details:
Run Date
November 5 – November 11. Themed content for subscribers only.
Nemo ~ Master of Festivities
Everyone's favorite profane master of themed events has moved to Templar Base and has several surprises for adventurous souls.
Guy Fawkes Quests
There are bigger Demons out there, and perhaps they're being drawn to the flames that erupt on Bonfire Night. Track down a series of named monstrosities and explore new areas as you seek to keep these explosive horrors at bay.
Bonfire Nightmares
Increased Demonic activity and the explosive nature of the times have made parts of the city even more fiery than usual. Keep an eye out for these rare locations.
Grenades
What would this celebration be without explosions? Lots of explosions... So many, in fact, that everyone can get in on the fun of hurling the Marksman's staple – Grenades. Now, imagine what else you could do with them.
Guy Fawkes Recipes
Making things is a big part of remembering Guy Fawkes for the survivors of London's fall. The ingenuity of Guy Fawkes is represented in the numerous recipes and schematics that crop up during this themed timeframe.
Guy Fawkes Treats
Bonfire Toffee, Toffee Apples, Baked Potatoes – all of the expected foodstuffs (and more) to keep winter's chill at bay and bolster characters with a wide variety of beneficial boosts.
Fawkes' Flameguards
Handling explosives can be tricky, so you'll want to make sure to find the right pair of gloves to keep your hands safe and sound.
The Legacy of Guy Fawkes
The Techsmiths have been busier than usual, so you'll never know when gear might drop that is thematically bound to the festivities.
Thanks everyone! Hope you've been enjoying the game!

Hellgate: London -- Out of the Box

Gamespy have posted thier out of the box review, also note that they wil post thier review score after tackling hellgate online.
The more we play the game, however, the more it begins to feel like the very randomness that makes the game compelling and addictive also adds to the aforementioned empty-calories analogy. Randomized loot robs the game of some of its personality because there's no "uber-loot" to quest for or an orderly progression of powerful equipment that keeps pace with the player's development. As a result, there's a lot less satisfaction with killing big bosses or getting each individual loot drop when most of it will be garbage. The randomized floor plans preclude a real sense of "place." The player travels through London districts with fascinating names like "Cheapside" and "Mansion House," but upon entering them find yet another collection of generic sewers, maintenance tunnels or randomized streets with eight different copies of the same roofless English pub. The difference is even starker during the far more enjoyable set-piece story battles that take place in places like Piccadilly Circus or the Tower of London. Since they never change, the designers went all out and create a real feeling that, yes, the player is fighting in the ruins of London. There's more to explore in Hellgate: London, of course -- we've only been able to play the single-player campaign so far -- but with each level we pass through and every identical demon battle, the constant diet of Doritos is starting to wear thin. Perhaps multiplayer will offer more charms, but as of this writing, the servers just went online. Based on our experience in the beta, multiplayer looks like more of the same because the nature of the combat doesn't seem to be conducive to the kind of fun teamwork to be found in a standard MMO or even a team-based shooter. The developers are promising to add all kinds of new content to the game for subscribers, but at launch, subscription benefits are restricted to a few minor things like additional item storage and a hardcore mode that restricts a character to one life. It's roughly the gaming equivalent of going from nacho cheese to spicy nacho cheese. We'll have our full review of Hellgate: London review in a couple of days; check back later today as we kick off our special Hellgate: London blog, chronicling our team's play-testing of the multiplayer.

US And EU Accounts

There seems to be a little confusion regarding US and EU accounts, and applying badges to them. First and foremost, you must create separate accounts for each region you wish to play on. Of course, you can use the same account name assuming it's not already taken, but an account does have to be created for both regions.

US registration can be done here at www.hellgatelondon.com.

EU registration can be done at www.eu.hellgatelondon.com.

If you have a pre-order code you'd like to redeem, you must apply it to both accounts separately for your in-game items to show up on both accounts. Redeeming a code on just one account will not activate your items for both regions.

Similarly, if you are subscribing, subscription benefits will only appear on the account you subscribed with.

Thanks, and hope this clears things up a bit. Thanks!

Subscriptions Back

We have reactivated the ability to get a subscription membership. We’re currently accepting credit cards as payment methods and are working to bring both Pay Pal and Pay by Cash back online as soon as possible. This has taken us slightly longer than expected as we’ve needed to work with several other companies and banks to ensure the security and integrity of our subscription service.

We know that many people tried and failed to subscribe early on, especially in the EU, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. Our Customer Service group will sort out any issues that you might have with billing.

An important note: Beta testers should NOT create a new account to become a subscription member. Please use your Beta account to access your pre-order or special offers.

Another Important Note: a US subscription gives you membership benefits only on the US server. Likewise, an EU subscription gives you membership benefits only on the EU server.

State of the Game

It’s been less than a week since we’ve opened the Hellgate, and we’re ecstatic at how many people have already joined us online. Overall, the game is running really well. Our game servers are incredibly stable and the community has been great about working with us to identify and resolve issue through the forums. We’ve been working through some issues as every new online game does, and as is befitting the season, we’ve our share of both tricks and treats.

Hellgate: London was scheduled to ship to stores by October 30th so it could be available for sale on the 31st. The excitement of retailers having the game on hand won out over our carefully crafted plans and we started seeing anxious gamers wanting to get online a day earlier than expected. Although we had to scramble, we also didn’t want to disappoint our first players, so we opened the servers early.

After the game had been running for a while, we found that we were having issues with out subscription transactions not being correctly processed. While this wasn’t an issue of incorrect charges being applied or insecure data issues, we needed to suspend subscriptions while we worked with our payment processing partners to address the problems. We’re working on this through the weekend and will take as long as required to iron out the last issues. We will update everyone as soon as we have more concrete information.

Turning of the ability to subscribe meant that we had some cool All Hallows’ Eve content that a lot of people weren’t going to be able to see. So, we decided to “turn on” the goodies for everyone who was playing. Unfortunately, this meant we would need to shut down the game servers in order to issue a new patch. Although we announced the down-time on our forums and within the game, not everyone got the message, so some people were surprised when they couldn’t get online for a few hours.

This, in turn, led everyone that was playing to rush to the Hellgate: London forums, which promptly overloaded both our forum and website servers. The treat was that we really saw that there are a LOT of passionate people playing the game. The trick was that the rush to our sites caused our little corner of the Internet to shut down.

It’s not that we don’t already have a good amount, but we immediately put out the order for more web servers. We’ve also implemented a website overflow plan in case we get that many people flooding onto the boards in such a short amount of time again. Live and learn!

We brought the servers and our sites back online a few hours later, patched everyone with all of the special themed content, and we’ve been up and running ever since. Some of our Beta testers have progressed through the end of the storyline and are continuing on in Nightmare difficulty. We can’t wait to see them tackle Elite Mode.

All in all, we’re pleased that the game itself is running so well. We’re also as frustrated as you are about these initial bumps in the road. Trust us – we’re here working on them all day, every day.

Single Player Patch

We’ve made the general fixes, improvements and changes found in Patch 0 available to our stand alone players. The option to patch your single player version of Hellgate: London is available from the launcher when you first start up the game.

Founder’s Offer Extended

We’ve received a flood of messages from people that have pre-ordered asking that we extend the time for our Founder’s offer. We understand your concern, and want to assure you that our delay in accepting subscriptions will not adversely affect your chance to take advantage of this offer. We’ll release specific details in the next few days, but we’ll extend the timeline of the offer and make sure that we take care of everyone that wants to be a Founder.

New Special Event

We’re putting the final touches on what is making it into our next patch, and details will be coming VERY soon. One hint – there’s going to be fire. LOTS of fire…

See you online!

Singapore Launch Update

Believe it or not, Hellgate: London launched in Singapore the same day as it did here in the States, and Max and Erich Schaefer were on hand to greet fans, sign games, and give interviews.

IAH Games, our partners in Singapore, went all out with their Hellgate promotions. One of the more clever ones was a four-page ad in a popular local paper. The ad was made to look like a real story, and had the headline "London's Burning" accompanying one of our images of a destroyed Big Ben/Thames River. It looked so good that many of the local people starting calling around to press outlets, thinking the story was real! War of the Worlds, anyone?

The main event took place at Funan Digitalife Mall - the electronics heaven of Singapore. The mall was decked out with Hellgate paraphernalia, including the now-famous Hellgate Jeep. Fans started lining up at 11PM the night before, with the first person in line bringing his entire family! By 10AM launch day, well over 100 people were sitting in line anxiously awaiting the 3PM start time, ignoring the extreme humidity and rain.

Max, can you drive the Jeep back to SF so we can ride in it?
By the end of the event, over 2,500 Collector's Editions were sold (more than Halo 3's launch in Singapore), fans got to meet Max and Erich and have their games signed, and Hellgate got a review score of 9.5/10 from one of Singapore's "harsh" reviewers. Not too shabby!
Waiting can be fun!

Thanks to everyone at IAH, Gigamedia, and Hanbitsoft for helping out and throwing such a great event! And super special thanks to all the fans that showed up. We love you all!
